I have spent a great deal of time postulating that people just don’t proofread anymore. Maybe some folks have never needed to do good work. Maybe they have never been expected to do good work. Maybe they have never experienced really good work. Whatever the reason, I am noticing more and more truly, shoddy work. The latest piece of mess to cross my screen is a cute, green WordPress theme by “cuikai.”
I “get” that English is not this designer’s primary language. However, anyone using another language as part of their design should surely make sure they know what is being said! To compound the sadness of this error, the design credit leads us to a site (with both Chinese and English language options) where the designer claims:
“…I am a creative Web Designer with over 5 years of extensive and diverse experience in a number of commercial projects. Solid understanding of usability and aesthetics, together with my sound knowledge on XHTML and CSS, I have developed many valid XHTML/CSS driven websites.”
Maybe the guy hadn’t had his morning coffee when he was working on this layout. Maybe he was trying to avoid a lawsuit. Maybe, just maybe, he thought the average WordPress user wouldn’t notice. Oh, we noticed. (Um, you did notice, didn’t you?) And we aren’t having any of your ole’ “SKCUBRATS EEFFOC” until you wake up and smell it.
