When our GOP Representatives voted for our ludicrous teacher evaluation system, and removed any protections our meager contracts contained, they told us this kind of thing wouldn’t happen. Experienced educators told them, over and over, that this would be a consequence, but they chose to ignore common sense.

In Tennessee:
“…kids have already circulated a list of teachers who they will be “fire bombing” by deliberately messing up their tests in hopes of getting the teachers fired.”

And over 60% of teachers who don’t have test scores, but use schoolwide scores, will ALL be hurt. How many Tennessee families will suffer because the Tennessee House and Senate Education Committees had a majority who did what they were told, rather than what THEY KNEW was right?

The link to the full article is below. The quote comes from the third paragraph.
http://www.naren.info/news/index.html

I am sure that I will see much more of this and that it will continue to make me angry, but I have a plan and I am sharing with every person I can contact:

Every time I see the negative effects of 2011′s terrible education legislation, I will send a $25 contribution to a representative who stood up and fought for public schools, public workers, and their unions.

My husband says that we will go broke. My response: “Yep; toss me the debit card.”

Tonight’s donation went to Senator Andy Berke. He isn’t in my district, but has certainly stood up for me more than anyone who is supposed to be “my” representative. I can’t give him my “real” vote, but I can certainly try to help him stay in office!

Please consider doing something similar. Maybe just put a quarter in a jar every time you see what last year’s foolish legislation has done. Then, donate the whole amount to one great candidate in your own district. Whatever yo do, the biggest thing you can do is let others know why you are doing it. Encourage them to join you.

Stand up and stand together.

One very scientific measurement I use t determine what to include in the “Best” list, is whether I yell, “Holy crap, I can’t believe I didn’t know about that!” or “George, Gracie, look what I can do!” (George and Gracie are cats, by the way.)

Today’s best was found in Jody Gilbert’s Tech Republic blog post, “Five Word Tips That Could Change Your Life.”

I can’t count the number of times I have pasted a bullet list into a document that did not recognize the bullets. To format the list as intended, I had to remove each character individually. Now, holding down the alt key (Shift + Alt for Mac users), I can select vertical text and “poof” it right off the page:

It is such a beautifully simple solution that I can’t believe I hadn’t found it earlier!
